Check out the Clay County Recreation Park, just a short drive from downtown Hayesville.  Whether you’re planning to camp for a night or two, or looking for a fun day trip, come spend it on Lake Chatuge! The Rec Park offers camper & tent sites, walking trails, swimming beach area, picnic tables, a ball field, covered pavilions, bathroom facilities and a children’s playground.

Lake Chatuge (pronounced Sha-Toog) encompasses 7,200 acres, 3,700 of which lie in Clay County, NC.  The lake was formed in 1942 when the TVA constructed a 2,950 foot  earth filled dam across the Hiawassee River.  A short distance from Lake Chatuge, Chatuge Dam offers a walking trail & swimming area.  Bring your lawn chair, relax, watch the boaters go by and soak in the spectacular lake and mountain views….. Whatever your fancy, you’ll find fun in the sun, and peace & relaxation on Lake Chatuge. Clay County Recreation Park is open yearly April 1st through October 31st.
